Why I Finally Started an Email List

When I finally started my email list a couple months ago, I had been in business over a year. I remember hearing about the importance of an email list from Jenna Kutcher‘s podcast before I even started my business. But for some reason it was just one of those things I kept putting off. Can you relate?

I heard all the time how we need an email list because we don’t own Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, etc. It makes sense but I was still dreading it. I didn’t want to add another thing to my list of platforms to worry about each month.

As a graphic designer, I’ve spent a good amount of time in email platforms. I used to setup email design templates for clients at my old agency job all the time, and everyone seemed to use a different platform. Even though all these platforms did “basically” the same things, there was a learning curve each time. And, I was always frustrated because good design wasn’t as important to these platforms as I wanted it to be.

Enter Flodesk

I think these bad experiences really played into why I was avoiding starting my email list. I had tried a bunch of platforms for my clients and didn’t love any of them. But then Flodesk appeared, seemingly out of nowhere, and I had to learn more about it.

I started seeing creative business owners sharing about Flodesk and how amazing it was, but more importantly to me – how beautiful the emails were. I was intrigued. After a little research, I knew this new platform was the one for me.

I have listened to some pretty amazing podcasts featuring the co-founders of Flodesk; they talked about their heart behind the business, and all the incredible research they did before building the platform, I was sold.

Three Reasons I Finally Started My Email List

  1. Flodesk makes it EASY! They have an awesome free trial and beta pricing so I could test things out and even send emails before the trial ended. And, I’m locked in at one low price forever. I don’t have to worry about my pricing going up as my email list grows (WIN!). Plus, their platform is designed in a way that really walks you through each step to get started. You aren’t overwhelmed by all of Flodesk’s features when you login. They only show what is necessary for each step of the process.
  2. I’m in the process of designing Showit website templates and I knew I would need a way to communicate about the product launch, sales, etc. (Make sure you’re on the waitlist to be first to know when the templates arrive and to receive a nice discount!)
  3. Because I know I don’t own my social media platforms. I own my website and can share all the information I want to there without worrying about my website ever going away. But Instagram could go away one day, or my account could be removed for some reason. You literally never know what could happen! And I knew I needed a way to stay in contact with my past clients and future clients that won’t go away. When you use an email platform, you do own your email list!
